Violent dolphin deaths [PHOTOS/VIDEO], Over the past several months, dolphins have washed ashore along the northern Gulf Coast and federal officials said they are looking into the mysterious deaths.
Authorities are investigating the attacks on dolphins in the northern Gulf of Mexico.
The Sun Herald reported that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a "heads up" directive on Thursday, putting officials on alert for an increase in human interaction with dolphins in the waters across Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
Authorities say cases of gunshot wounds, mutilations and other injuries have been detected in recent months. And on Friday, Scientists from the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport went to Deer Island and found a second dolphin dead with a portion of his jaw missing.
