Head-on train crash [PHOTOS/VIDEO], Two commuter trains, full of passengers, collided head-on during the morning rush hour in Vienna on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013. According to Reuters, the accident left several dozen people injured according to emergency services, and that includes five that are in serious condition.
At least 25 fire engines were a part of the large rescue operation that also included a helicopter, multiple ambulances, and a special accident train. There were a numerous amount of injured that had to be extracted from the train wreckage using specialized cranes. One person was trapped in the mangled wreckage and needed to be cut out.

"Two of the seriously injured are in a life-threatening condition, one of whom is one of the train drivers," emergency services spokesman Ronald Packert told AFP. "In total 41 people were hurt."
"One good thing was that the crash happened right next to an emergency services station, meaning that our people were there in seconds," he said.
As of now, Austrian Railways said the crash appears to have been caused by a technical fault. This fault caused both trains to be on the exact same track and traveling toward one another.
"There was a technical problem," company spokeswoman Sarah Nettel told AFP. "One of the trains received a signal to proceed that it shouldn't have."
The evacuation of both trains took almost two hours.
